Mental Health Month Resources for Older Adults

Excessive anxiety that causes distress or that interferes with daily activities is not a normal part of aging, and can lead to a variety of health problems and decreased functioning in everyday life.

Please see the PDF Fact Sheet on Older Adults from the Mental Health America and National Council on Aging.

A Tool Kit can be downloaded from the Mental Health America web site.

Celebrate National Nurses Week!

NGNA would like to wish all members a wonderful Nurses Week! This week, we encourage you to take time out to recognize colleagues for their achievements, and promote the nursing profession to others.

National Nurses Week is May 6-12, 2015. Wednesday, May 6th, is traditionally known as National Nurses Day. The closing of the week, May 12th, is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. If you would like to view more information about National Nurses Week, along with ways to celebrate, click here.

In the spirit of Nurses Week, we would like to express our sincere thanks to every NGNA member, whether you are retired, a volunteer, a clinician, educator, policy leader or researcher. We appreciate your contribution to the improvement of the lives of older adults and their family caregivers everywhere.

NGNA’s tagline, Where Compassion Meets Purpose, perfectly exemplifies the commitment of our members. As nurses, your compassion is your foundation, reflected in the care you bring to older adults and the work you do for your colleagues. Thank you!

Enjoy this week, which is dedicated to you and your profession!

May is Older Americans' Month!

May is Older Americans’ Month, and this year the theme is Get into the Act. In the spirit of Older Americans’ Month, we encourage our members to consider donating to the NGNA Mission Advancement Fund. The Mission Advancement Fund was created by the NGNA Board of Directors to provide resources for projects and activities that advance NGNA’s core purpose – to improve nursing care given to older adults. Click here to donate online.

For more information on Older Americans’ Month, simply click here. You will have the opportunity to download numerous items to encourage observance and awareness of this month, such as a poster, banner and logo that may be incorporated into your workplace. There are many other ways to take action and be involved.

Thank you for all you do, no matter your specific role or interest in NGNA - The only inclusive nursing organization for gerontological nursing in the country!
